Following a review of our dementia service in Shetland an exciting new post has been developed to provide clinical leadership. The Dementia Consultant will provide strategic direction, support dementia service improvement/evaluation and act as an expert providing clinically led services and advice to support the decision making of a range of other health and care professions.

The Dementia Consultant is a dual role and will lead on the ongoing implementation of dementia standards, national and local strategies, the dementia service remobilisation and recovery plan as well as leading the clinical team and the responsibilities for delivering on assessment, diagnosis and treatment. They will also have a specific remit to support the development of practice and patient safety principles in the Hospital setting.

Applicants must be innovative and resourceful to meet the challenges of the remote and rural area of practice. This will involve working across professional and organisational boundaries, in partnership and in collaboration with others including service users, carers, health professionals, social work, voluntary sector staff, and local education providers.

The post holder will be a key member of the senior clinical team of the Community Mental Health Department.  Applicants must have current registration with either the NMC (with clinical experience at Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist level) or AHP (with clinical experience at AHP equivalent) and a master’s degree in a relevant programme to support advanced practice dementia care, to be appointed as a Dementia Consultant.
