The Role


NHS Shetland is looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic leader to become the joint Head of the Mental Health Service. You will provide strategic leadership for Mental Health services within Shetland ensuring that a modern, responsive service is provided for patients and clients of the service in either the local community or inpatient generalist settings or via services delivered in partnership with NHS Grampian.


The Head of the Mental Health Service will strategically lead and implement programmes of work relating to Service Redesign, ensuring that clinical and care services are delivered to required standards within an overall clinical, staff and financial governance framework.  Appropriate management systems will be established to meet the requirements of the relevant governance standards.  The Mental Health Services Manager, working across the Health and Social Care Partnership, will be actively involved in local decision making processes, delivering on financial targets and standards for accountable budgets. 


The Service


The Mental Health Service in Shetland continues to undergo a period of change and development.  There has been significant investment in the service in recent years and the service continues to evolve to meet the needs for the community in Shetland.  The Mental Health Service is responsible for the promotion of mental health and wellbeing as well as the provision of primary and secondary mental health care/treatment and integrated with social work and social care.  Our values focus on patients seeing the appropriate professional at the appropriate time as close to home as possible. Close links are in place with the local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Nursing Team and with the Learning Disabilities service both of which have Consultant level input from the Specialist services based in NHS Grampian.
