About the Organisation:

The core purpose of the Digital and Security (DaS) organisation is the provision of world class Digital and Security expertise, solutions and services to our customers, which include NSS, NHS Boards, Scottish Government and the wider Public Sector in Scotland. 

The post: 
A critical role in ensuring integrated Business Technology strategy and delivery of suitable and effective solutions and services is the Senior Service Manager (SSM) position. This role will strengthen our Operations Management Team and be specifically focused on the Cloud Engineering & Operations team (CE&O) that manage both local and national infrastructure used by Digital & Security to deliver key digital services 

As an SSM you will be responsible for ensuring we design, develop and manage the infrastructure and associated operational services which underpin critical clinical and administrative services across NHS Scotland.

Responsibilities
•    Own and manage the delivery of critical infrastructure services including on premise, private and public cloud solutions.
•    Develop and implement policies for the management and maintenance of all infrastructure to ensure services are protected from both service degradation and from cyber threats.
•    Lead and drive improvement in the planning and forecasting of infrastructure lifecycle and compliance to align with the technical standards laid out in infrastructure policies.
•    Act as interface with infrastructure teams to develop an operating model and resource plan for the management and maintenance of all infrastructure.
•    Work actively with all service managers to ensure an end-to-end view of all services delivered with associated resource management and costs is developed for all lines of service.
•    Establish and embed effective relationships between the SMO and Service Management teams manage a portfolio of infrastructure through maintaining an effective configuration management database (CMDB)
•    Actively contribute to a culture of high performance, innovation and continuous improvement
•    Work with SSM peers to develop a target operating model as part of the transformation across the CE&O team.

Education and Experience
•    Educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in an IT or other relevant discipline 
•    Post-graduate qualification in the specialist area, e.g. ISEB, MCSE or the Professional Certificate in Management or equivalent Master’s degree.
•    Well-developed leadership, interpersonal and motivational skills
•    Significant experience working at senior management level within the NHS or Public Sector
•    Experience of working across a complex, and often politically driven, group of stakeholders to reach agreements
•    Demonstrable experience managing a complex multi-vendor portfolio
•    Ability to manage complex contractual engagements

General Requirements
•    Demonstrable experience of managing a team
•    Demonstrate taking ownership and using initiative
•    Highly developed analytical and judgmental skills
•    Highly developed communication skills; verbal, written and presentational

Location and working pattern:
This position is based in Edinburgh or Glasgow, albeit currently in a working from home capacity.
