Who We Are  

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations. 

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a strategic leadership role to deliver the key priorities of the Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Dementia programme, whilst also contributing to the wider Nursing Mudwifery and AHP Directorate and NES strategy. The Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Dementia and Suicide Prevention landscape is dynamic, requiring high-level engagement across professions, disciplines and sectors. You will be an innovative and highly motivated practitioner and educator with proven solution focused ability. You will have significant experience and expert knowledge of Mental Health, LD and Dementia health and care services. Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills are essential, as is multi-professional and multi-agency engagement and approaches. You will have demonstrable flexibility and high-level diplomacy skills to enable high-level effective leadership.  


What you'll do   

Key tasks will include but are not restricted to; 

  • Work with a range of colleagues internally and externally to influence and lead on national priorities relating to Mental Health, LD and Dementia as well as Suicide Prevention.  

  • Analyse complex information to make judgements and recommendations to enable educational solutions.  

  • Conduct regular and ongoing evaluative reviews of programmes and contribute to the development of quality assurance and performance indicators for educational activities in order that NES, as an educational provider, as well as other providers continue to deliver programmes of appropriate quality and content. 

  • Co-ordinate, monitor and manage financial resources and other resources within the Directorate.  

  • Manage, design and develop a portfolio of projects, both internally and externally funded.  


What you'll bring  

These will include but are not restricted to: 

  • Significant experience of Mental Health, LD and Dementia health and care services, alongside a sound grasp of the current and future policy context across these fields.  

  • Educated to Masters degree or evidence of equivalent learning and current registration with the NMC or HCPC. 

  • Proven ability to work at a strategic level across the directorate and organisation as well as with external partners such as Scottish Government, NMC, NHS Boards, social care providers, education and other national bodies.  

  • Evidence of leadership skills and ability to influence at all levels using self-management ability and analytical, prioritisation and judgement skills in order to influence educational services. 

  • Track record in developing, commissioning, managing and evaluating development programmes/activities.
