Who We Are  

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations. 

This post will be based in the new NHS Scotland Academy, Learning and Innovation directorate. 

What you'll do   

Key tasks will include but are not restricted to; 

  • Liaison with key stakeholders regarding national service requiremnets, synthesis and analysis of needs and potential solutions. Working with the Head of Programme in horizon scanning and anticipation of needs. 

  • Analysis and evaluation of exisiting / new education resource needs 

  • Maintain and enhance national links with key stakeholders across disciplines; informing service and educational development in a Once for Scotland approach. 

  • Develop information sharing networks, structures, and establish appropriate processes supporting effective two-way communication impacting upon colleagues at national, regional and health board levels across NHS Scotland. 

  • Developing briefing documents, background papers, reports and other materials as appropriate for stakeholder groups such as Steering Groups and Scottish Government Health Department. 

The initial responsibilties of this post will concentrate on the Medical Associate Professions (MAPs) workstream, meeting the objectives of the Medical Associate Professions commission from Scottish Government.  

The Scottish Government has commission NES to undertake a service and educational needs analysis to map current and future demand for these roles across Scotland. This includes where possible, exploration of the additionality of roles. This is followed by ongoing analysis with a focus on the possibilities of educational adaptation and collaboration with any existing provider(s).  This will include involvement in planning and delivering varied components of a communications strategy within this workstream. 

  • This post supports NES to deliver workforce and educating, scoping: MAPs, informing workforce and education planning/ provision for these specific professions.  

What you'll bring  

These will include but are not restricted to; 

  • Professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council or with the Health and Care Professions Council 

  • Master’s degree (or actively working towards) or equivalent experience 

  • Substantial postgraduate experience, including enhanced responsibility in an educational or healthcare post 

  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary environment, ideally with understanding of innovation and change. 

  • Experince in synthesising complex information and analysis, informing development of responsive solutions. 

  • Experience of planning, developing and delivering education and training 

  • Experience in the development and application of technology enhanced approaches to learning 

  • Knowledge and expertise in education, leadership, management and models for delivery of development  

  • Ability, experience and judgement to work independently and as part of a senior team 

  • Ability to build highly effective relations internally and externally is key as well as excellent facilitation, presentation and strategic thinking and analysis skills 

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiating, influencing and facilitation skills at a senior level
