Maternity Ultrasound Department

Trainee Sonographer

                                                                                                  

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Maternity Ultrasound Department, University Hospital Wishaw to train as an Obstetric Sonographer. The training is full-time (37.5 hours each week) and is both academic and practical. There is a need to attend an institute of higher education for the academic component of the course and a need to complete various assessments throughout the entire training. Successful completion of the training will result in an award of a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound.

Following qualification, the post holder will become a Reporting Obstetric Sonographer, working both independently and as part of a team, to a high clinical standard. Based mainly at University Hospital Wishaw however travelling to outlying clinics is required therefore a driving license is essential.

We are looking for a Radiographer with a BSc Radiography who is HCPC Registered or a Registered Midwife with valid NMC Registration and has at least three years post qualification experience to join our friendly team at University Hospital Wishaw, Maternity Ultrasound Department and undertake a Post Graduate Certificate at Glasgow Caledonian University.

We are looking for a Radiographer/Midwife with a keen interest in Obstetric Ultrasound who is enthusiastic, highly motivated and ready to embark on a new career in ultrasound.

Full support will be given within the department.

Clinical placement will involve supervised training in Obstetric Ultrasound. Guidance and support will be given by an appointed Clinical Mentor within the department. Tailored teaching sessions will be arranged to support the successful candidate in gaining the necessary practical skills.

A significant portion of the course requires self-directed learning and the successful candidate will be required to study in their own time to complete all course objectives, however study time will be allocated within the department also.  It is essential that applicants are familiar with course requirements.

During training working hours will normally be Monday to Friday between 8.30am-4.30pm, however some flexibility may be required. Applicants should have a flexible approach to working.
