Due to our expanding Occupational therapy service we are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and highly motivated individual to join our team. You will be experienced in working within mental health; preferably within community mental health and keen to thrive in a role that offers you the variety of working with both older and younger adults with mental health issues to have an interesting and varied caseload. You will be able to articulate and demonstrate Occupational Therapies unique and valued contribution to community mental health, and contribute to the development of a high quality, evidenced based Occupational Therapy service.
As part of this role the post holder will have one day per week dedicated to perinatal mental health. Experience in perinatal mental health is not essential, you will be supported to gain relevant knowledge and skills required. This is an exciting opportunity for the post holder to contribute to the development of perinatal mental health services across Dumfries and Galloway as part of the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service. This is a new service developed in line with the government’s Delivering Effective Services (2019) guidance which outlines provision of perinatal mental health services across Scotland
You will be expected to represent the Dumfries & Galloway Mental Health Occupational Therapy service in appropriate local and national forums as directed by the Occupational therapy Service Manager.
Our team is innovative and enthusiastic and has led on a number of service improvements including: the Home Based Memory Rehabilitation programme for older adults; utilising video conferencing to take a blended approach to interventions and offering vocational rehabilitation within GP surgeries in a primary care setting. We are further developing and modernising our service to provide occupational therapy at an earlier stage and are exploring the potential of groups on NHS Near Me and innovative placements for students. Current develops are focusing on developing the OT role within inpatient services, earlier access to memory strategies for those with mild cognitive impairments, the potential of animation, ensuring service users gain access to our service at the right time; development in primary care, early intervention for psychosis, perinatal mental health.
