The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Marketing & Visual Communications (MVC) Designer

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated designer who can think creatively, solve problems visually and deliver designs that make a real difference to the people of Grampian.

This is a chance to join a small but dynamic in-house team with new challenges – from high-profile health campaigns to digital content for commercial projects. We need a self-starter who thrives on ideas, can respond imaginatively to complex briefs, and enjoys turning concepts into clear, compelling visual solutions.

What you’ll do

  • Generate creative, engaging design solutions across print, digital, film and motion graphics.
  • Use design thinking to solve communication challenges – finding the most effective visual approach to connect with audiences.
  • Develop design projects that make a real impact on health and wellbeing, while meeting professional, accessibility and brand standards.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, clinicians and partners to bring campaigns to life.
  • Work flexibly across our studio and NHS Grampian locations, including filming, photography, production shoots and other on-site creative activity.
  • Manage multiple projects at pace while maintaining high creative standards.

A unique opportunity

As well as supporting core NHS communications, this role has a key part to play in helping the Head of Service deliver commercial activity. You’ll contribute creative assets and design solutions that not only enhance campaigns but also add value through external partnerships and marketing opportunities.

About you

We’re interested in designers who are:

  • Creative thinkers – you don’t just make things look good; you solve problems through design.
  • Multi-skilled – confident using professional Adobe CC and other applications across print and digital design, with skills in motion graphics and/or film.
  • Curious and resourceful – always looking for smarter, sharper ways to communicate.
  • Positive under pressure – able to adapt quickly and keep projects moving.
  • Enthusiastic – brings ‘can-do’ energy and motivation to every project.
  • Organised and adaptable – thrives when balancing multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative – integrates well in a small, supportive team while working independently when needed.

A recognised degree, HND or equivalent design qualification is essential, but what matters most is your talent, creativity and drive to add value through your work.

What we’re looking for in your application

  • A CV detailing your skills and experience.
  • A portfolio submitted as a single PDF or website link, including at least three examples demonstrating your graphic design work across print and digital formats, together with evidence of capability or experience in motion graphics and/or film.
  • Where AI-assisted or generative tools have been used in submitted portfolio work, candidates should briefly identify their use and clearly explain their own creative contribution.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be asked to present a fuller portfolio at interview and may also be asked to complete a short creative exercise and/or presentation as part of the selection process.

What we offer

  • This is a hands-on creative role and regular on-site working is an essential part of the post, including collaborative studio working and activity across NHS Grampian locations.
  • A stimulating blend of creative NHS projects and design work that supports commercial growth.
  • The chance to make a visible difference to health communications across the region.
  • A varied working environment combining studio, on-location and remote working.
  • A supportive team where creativity, enthusiasm and initiative are valued and encouraged.
