Organisational Lead for Communications and Engagement

Fixed term until end December 2024

Do you want to work at the heart of public health? We have an opportunity for an experienced Communications Lead to manage our busy team of communications and professionals.
As an Organisational Lead for Communications and Engagement you will:
•    Lead the development and delivery of a full range of corporate communications, horizon scanning and public affairs services
•    Liaise with political and policy leaders and senior public service stakeholders 
•    Lead on the development of corporate messages across a range of platforms and channels so support the organisation’s strategy to improve health and reduce health inequalities
•    Provide professional leadership support and advice to the corporate communications team 

About the Organisation:
Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 as a national health board, employing around 1200 people, and with an annual budget of around £101 million. Public Health Scotland wants to see a Scotland where everybody thrives, a Scotland where life expectancy improves and the difference in life expectancy between our poorest and wealthiest areas gets smaller.

The Candidate:

You will have:
•    A Masters level or equivalent level of experience in a relevant field (public relations, communications, media or marketing).
•    Senior and recent significant demonstrable experience of managing the successful development and delivery of complex and strategic Communication Plans, ideally within a public sector/health environment.
•    Proven skills in managing and motivating a team of staff to achieve results and provide an excellent customer-focused service. 
•    Formal line management experience including 1:1 coaching, annual appraisal, objective setting and personal development planning.
•    Knowledge and expertise across the full range of tools and techniques of communications including significant experience of media handling, public affairs, public relations, social media, digital communications and internal communications.


Location and Working Pattern:
Hybrid working is offered but candidates may choose to work solely in the office.  Offices are based at 2 Central Quay Glasgow or The Gyle Edinburgh.

Working pattern will be Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week, however, PHS supports flexible working and we are happy to discuss requests for alternative working patterns.

During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need, you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.
