COVID-19 Healthcare Support Worker Vaccinator
The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde COVID-19 Vaccination Programme is underway, and we are continuing to look for a variety of skill-sets to support one of the Health Board's largest vaccination programmes ever undertaken.
As the demand for COVID vaccines continues, there is a need to create a cohort of additional COVID-19 Healthcare Support Worker Vaccinators to support this exciting programme.
Our COVID-19 Healthcare Support Worker Vaccinators will work as a part of a multi-professional team, safely and effectively delivering COVID-19 vaccinations. You will be responsible for preparing and administering the vaccine to citizens and staff in a number of delivery settings
In particular, you will be responsible for:
- Configuration of their vaccination station
- Reconstituting the Vaccine (vaccine dependent)
- Preparing single doses of the vaccine for administration (vaccine dependent)
- Administration of the vaccine
- Adherence to infection control practices between individuals, including PPE use
- Disposal of clinical waste as per local and national protocols and guidelines
- Adherence to data protection and information governance standards
- Demonstrates care and compassion to patients, carers and relatives to help ensure high-quality person-centred patient care is delivered at all times
Terms and conditions
If you are successful, you will be invited to join the Nursing & Midwifery Staff Bank as a COVID-19 Vaccinator. You will be reimbursed based on the Agenda for Change Band 3 payscale £21,709 - £23,603 per annum (pro-rata).
Once you have successfully been recruited to the Nursing & Midwifery Staff Bank, you will only have access to view and book COVID-vaccination shifts. You will not be given access to other shifts available on the Nursing & Midwifery Staff Bank. It is anticipated your contract with the Nursing & Midwifery Staff Bank will be terminated at the end of the COVID vaccination programme.
Please note as a Bank Worker, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has no obligation to provide you with shifts, and there is no obligation for you to accept any shifts.
Nursing and Midwifery Staff Bank
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde will publicise all of the available COVID-vaccination support shifts via the Nursing & Midwifery Staff Bank. All professionals interested in becoming a COVID-vaccinator will be added to the Nursing & Midwifery Staff Bank (regardless of their profession). This will allow COVID-19 Healthcare Support Worker Vaccinators to view and self-book themselves onto shifts which they are able to support.
There will be a variety of shifts on offer, as the demand for COVID vaccinations increases - this will include evening, weekend and short-notice shifts. COVID vaccination shifts will be available at various sites, including acute hospitals, vaccination hubs and care homes.
Training requirements
In conjunction with the Scottish Government, NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and pharmaceutical organisations, a wealth of training has been developed in order to keep yourself and our patients safe. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde have developed a training schedule which all COVID-19 Healthcare Support Worker Vaccinators must demonstrate competence in prior to booking the first shift. The self-directed training will include e-learning, reviewing relevant documents and watching pre-recorded webinars and multimedia. The training requirements will be provided to you if you are successful in being invited to join the Nursing & Midwifery Staff Bank.

COVID-19 Healthcare Support Worker Vaccinators must be qualified to SQF Level 6 (Higher National Certificate, SVQ3, Modern Apprenticeship) or be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge, skills and competence within a health and social care setting. It is essential you have experience of working in a Healthcare Support Worker role or have worked within the Health and Social Care setting. These attributes must be clearly evidenced within your application.
This opportunity is also available for retired health care workers, former-registered professionals who no longer hold professional registration, or those with experience in a primary-care setting.
Registered Professionals
If you hold a current NMC, HCPC, GMC, GDC, GOC or GPhC registration, you may be eligible to apply for a COVID-19 Vaccinator role.
Existing COVID-19 Healthcare Support Worker Vaccinator
COVID-19 Healthcare Support Worker Vaccinators who applied and were offered a position through a previous recruitment programme do not need to reapply.
